Born and bred in the south – specifically in a small town in North Carolina – Joyce Watkins King was an expert in sewing since middle school. She later used this skill in her artwork which includes luxury upholstery fabric design. Her more than two decades of specialized experience in corporate and private commissions saw her textile and mixed media works included in private and corporate collections. She was also part of international and numerous regional exhibitions in the US. Besides doing creative work, she also ran a textile sales business and achieved fundraising milestones. She headed the Bookmarked! festival – an event that celebrated children’s reading. She was also part of Wake Habitat and was involved in building more than 175 houses in Wake County. Recently, she was given the Kathryn H. Wallace Award for Artists in Community Service by the Triangle Community Foundation. King is currently living and working in Raleigh.
